Learn to use radios as a collective instrument to compose, rehearse, and perform a collaborative sound art piece:
Workshop: Open to women and gender diverse musicians, sound artists, or adventurous beginners.
Ticket price: £10 / £5 (low wage option)

Tune into the airwaves as a collective instrument in this hands-on workshop led by sound artist and radio specialist Dr Magz Hall. Whether you are a musician, sound artist, or an adventurous beginner, you will learn to manipulate portable radios and we will compose, rehearse, and perform a collaborative sound piece together. Drawing inspiration from avant-garde pioneers like John Cage and Magz Halls EVP project, Dead Radio, we will explore the sonic potential of inter-station static, heterodyne whistles, and fleeting broadcast fragments.
Through deep listening exercises, extended antenna techniques, and graphic scoring, the workshop transforms unpredictable radio frequencies into a structured, improvised ensemble performance.
Radios will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own radio receiver.
Bio Dr Magz Hall is an Oram Award-winning and Ivor Novello nominated sound and radio artist, and practice based researcher who makes expanded radio art. Her practice combines immersive audio, micro-broadcasting, and site-specific sculpture often tied to environmental themes as well as playing with the whole radio spectrum. A founder of Resonance FM she has a practice based PhD in expanded radio art from UAL, and has run Radio Arts workshops which span Collaborative Art installations, DIY transmission, Micro broadcasting, Mini FM, building Dream Vessels, Book and Tree radio transmitters, radio appropriation, antenna building, sound recording and mixing and many othershttps://magzhall.com/
